Latest Update: Why Are Malaysia's Petrol Prices Falling?

The Malaysia petrol price today adjustment comes amid changes in regional petroleum supply.

According to the Finance Ministry, Brent crude oil prices remain above US$100 per barrel.

However, the availability of refined petroleum products across Asian markets has started improving.

China has resumed fuel exports for October, while South Korea continues supplying refined petroleum products to regional markets.

These developments have helped ease some supply pressures.

Nevertheless, continued tensions in West Asia mean global petroleum prices could remain volatile in the coming weeks.

Current Status: BUDI95 Petrol Remains RM1.99

One of the biggest concerns among Malaysian motorists is whether the subsidised RON95 price has changed.

The answer is no. Eligible Malaysians can continue purchasing RON95 at RM1.99 per litre through BUDI95.

With unsubsidised RON95 currently priced at RM4.62, the government covers RM2.63 per eligible litre.

For example, filling a car with 40 litres would cost RM79.60 at the subsidised rate, compared with RM184.80 without the subsidy.

That represents a difference of RM105.20 for the same quantity of fuel.

Actual subsidised purchases remain subject to programme eligibility and applicable limits.

Diesel Price Update: Eligible Drivers Still Pay RM2.10

The Malaysia petrol price today announcement also includes a decrease in unsubsidised diesel prices.

The market rate for diesel falls from RM5.27 to RM5.17 per litre.

However, eligible recipients under BUDI Diesel continue paying RM2.10 per litre.

The difference between the market price and subsidised rate is RM3.07 per litre.

Approved public transport and logistics operators may also qualify for separate subsidised fuel rates under their respective schemes.

These programmes are intended to reduce fuel cost pressures for qualifying motorists and businesses.

Public Interest: Will Lower Fuel Prices Reduce Living Costs?

The latest petrol and diesel price reductions raise an important question for Malaysians: Will everyday expenses become cheaper?

Fuel costs can affect transportation, delivery services and business operations.

However, retail prices are also influenced by labour, raw materials, rental expenses and other operating costs.

Therefore, a five- or ten-sen fuel price reduction does not automatically translate into immediate reductions in food or consumer product prices.

Drivers using RON97 or unsubsidised RON95 will see the direct benefit at petrol stations, while eligible BUDI95 users continue enjoying their existing subsidised rate.Malaysia petrol price today

What's Next: When Will Malaysia's Petrol Prices Change Again?

The current Malaysia petrol price today rates apply from October 15 until October 21, 2026.

The next weekly fuel price announcement is expected on October 21, with revised rates taking effect on October 22.

The Finance Ministry also indicated that the government expects to allocate RM40 billion for fuel subsidies in 2027 to support households and businesses amid global energy uncertainty.
